In order to get the most out of your initial appointment, we ask you to bring a few things with you. We recommend bringing 2-3 pairs of the shoes you wear the most often, plus any current orthotics, braces or other equipment you may already be using. Wearing clothing that allows us to access your feet and lower limbs and that you are comfortable moving in is ideal where possible. It can also be helpful for you to note any symptoms, discomfort and any factors impacting these to help us in our diagnosis and treatment plan. 

You don’t need a referral to book an appointment with our podiatrists. If you are using an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, you will need a referral to claim under Medicare. Some private health insurance claims may also require a referral for certain conditions – we advise checking with your GP or provider if you are uncertain. 

Often, podiatry is covered by private health insurance, though details can differ between policies and providers. We advise checking with your private health insurance provider before booking to avoid any unexpected expenses. 

At your first appointment, your podiatrist will take the time to understand your concerns, medical history, and treatment objectives. We’ll then conduct a thorough examination of your feet and lower limbs, often including gait analysis and focusing on specific areas of concern. After the examination, we’ll discuss our findings and the next steps. 

Signs that you should see a podiatrist include persistent or worsening pain or discomfort, skin or nail issues, injuries that are not healing well or any general foot concerns that are impacting your daily life and overall health. Often the sooner treatment can be started, the more options are available so if you have any concerns at all, seeking professional help is highly recommended.
